The Origin Of Eidul Adha Known As ( Tobaski)

One of the most important Islamic holidays of the year Is Eid-ul-Adha, marks the end of Hajj, the sacred pilgrimage to the holy city Mecca. It’s customary for every able Muslim (as prescribed in the Five Pillars of Islam) to go on a Hajj at least once during his lifetime. Also popularly known as the Festival of Sacrifice, this Muslim holiday Eid-ul-Adha commemorates Prophet Abraham’s unselfish act of sacrificing his own son Ismaila to the One God, Allah.

The history behind Eid-ul-Adha follows the story of the faithful Abraham, who was instructed by Allah in a dream to raise the foundations of Kaaba, a black stone, the most sacred Muslim shrine in Mecca (Saudi Arabia), which the Muslims face during their prayers (salat). Immediately responding to the Lord’s call, Abraham set off for Mecca along with his wife and son, Ismaila. At that time, Mecca was a desolate and barren desert and Abraham had to face a lot of hardships. However, he supplicated Allah’s commands uncomplaining. In a divine dream, he also saw himself sacrificing his son Ismaila for Allah’s sake. When he told this to Ismaila, the latter immediately asked his father to carry out Lord’s commands without faltering and assured that he was completely ready to give up his life for God. But miraculously enough, when Abraham was about to sacrifice Ismaila, Allah spared the boy’s life and replaced him with a lamb. And this is what Abraham ultimately sacrificed. To commemorate this outstanding act of sacrifice by Prophet Abraham, people sacrifice a lamb, goat, ram or any other animal on Eid-ul-Adha and give the meat to friends, neighbors, relatives and the needy. People whoare away from the holy pilgrimage, Hajj, also carry out this traditional sacrifice. Hence Eid-ul-Adha is also known as the Feast of Sacrifice or the Day of Sacrifice.

Eid-ul-Adha begins from the 10th day of the 12th Islamic month Dhul-Hijjah. But the date of Eid-ul-Adha depends on the visibility of the moon each year. Eid-ul-Adha is known by different names in different parts of the world. For instance, Eid-ul-Adha is known by the name (Tobaski) in Senegambia, But whatever the name is, the celebratory spirit of Eid-ul-Adha runs high among Muslims all over the world, the geographical variations notwithstanding.

Islamic scholars on Tobaski ram raffle

As Muslims brace up to observe the feast of Eid -Ul-Adha, commonly known as Tobaski, some private companies in the business sector have been deploying all types of marketing strategies with a view to luring potential customers to buy their products. People who have been actively watching the national television and listening to the private radio stations as well as reading newspapers, would come across advertisement slots of some household name business entities, urging customers to buy their products so as to be part of a raffle draw that will earn them a ram for the Tobaski. Since the commencement of such initiatives, many more people who subscribed to these companies have won rams through raffle draws.

However, one might be tempted to know whether rams won from these raffles are fit to be slaughtered on the Muslim feast of Tobaski in respect to the Islamic teachings and principles. To explore this, the Daily Observer sounded the views of the top Islamic scholars in the country. Alhaji Momodou Lamin Touray, the president of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council who doubles as one ode the deputy Imams of the State House Mosque, said that it is important for people not to participate in the whole show with the intention of getting something. However, he put it that “if one buys the product, being it scratch card or fuel without the intention of participating in the raffle draw and luckily won something, then it is the person’s luck.” “If the credit or the fuel you buy is being used by you and nothing is decreased from it, and you end up winning something dedicated to the Islamic feast, that is luck and a way of luring in customers. I don’t think the Shariah should see any problem with that,” he said. He added: “If a customer is not cheated and gets everything as it should be, then whatever he or she benefits from there is not bad, as it is a way of luring the customers and making them happy too”. According to the erudite Imam, since nobody loses in this one, then one cannot condemn it as bad, adding that it is not something where one party wins and the other loses. The Supreme Islamic Council president used the opportunity to advise the business community, notably ram dealers, not to consider their individual gains at the detriment of the Muslims. He also urged them to be honest in their business and to have mercy for the Muslims who find it difficult to meet the exorbitant cost of the rams. Touray further described Islam as a religion of mercy, peace, and blessings. “The religion itself stands on the pillars of mercy, peace and helpfulness to each other,” he noted. He expressed great disappointment for the fact that Muslim traders increase the prices of their items only when the religious feast approaches. “Really, it is disheartening that the prices of some rams are more than a bull,” he added.

On the other hand, Imam Touray also cautioned the people to avoid unnecessary spending, noting that Tobaski is not about bragging and extravagancy. “We will advise the Muslims to be modest in their expenditure and cause inflation of price. Contributing to the Tobaski ram rafles debate, Oustass Abdoulie Fatty, Imam of State House Mosque, spoke about the need for the people to be mindful of their deeds and sayings. The Imam noted that what may be considered as bad is where one send text message with the objective of wining the items from the raffle, but maintained that he sees no problem where a customer bought a credit, benefited from additional bonus and at the end won something worthwhile. Imam Fatty spoke about the need for the companies, notably the GSM operators to ensure a viable and effective network system, as well as making services and products affordable to the average citizens. This, he maintained is what the people want. For Oustass Banding Drammeh, former president of The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, and a renowned Islamic scholar, a ram that is to be slaughtered for Tobaski should be clean from all unIslamic practices. “In my own view, people should buy rams when they can afford it because it is a strong Sunnah but not compulsory for somebody who cannot afford it. But in a situation where you can’t afford it, do not participate in any sort of raffle with the objective of getting a ram for Tobaski,” the former SIC boss remarked.

Lailatul Qadr:

It is translated as The Night of Power or Destiny. “Al Qadr” among other things denotes power, ability, authority, esteem, etc. This is the Blessed Night on which Allah revealed the Quran for the first time to the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) as the Divine Being Himself points out in “Surat Al Qadr”. This is the Night on which Allah decrees amnesty from the punishment of Hell for the greatest number of people throughout the year from this Umma.

Allah has thus made it superior to a thousand months, which is more than 84 years. A single good deed: devotional act, therefore, on this Night gets the reward of a lifetime of good deeds. This is why the Muslim is encouraged to spend the Night in Prayer and supplication, recitation of the Quran and similar devotional acts and of course also remembering the poor and needy in charity and kindness. The exact date of Lailatul Qadr however remains hidden to people by the Divine Wisdom of Allah.

The Prophet (S.A.W.) has however, hinted that it occurs during the last ten nights of Ramadhaan; those with odd numbers to be more precise, (i.e. the nights occurring before the 21st , 23rd , 25th , 27th and 29th days of Ramadhaan respectively). The best thing therefore, in order to gain the full blessings of Ramadhaan and Lailatul Qadr is to do as the Prophet himself used to do. Mother Aisha (R.A.) has said that the Prophet (S.A.W.) used to engage himself in devotional acts in Ramadhaan more than any other time in the year and during the last ten of Ramadhaan more than any other time. That is because this is the period of salvation from the Fire and because of Lailatul Qadr which is the Greatest Night of the year.

I Shaking Hands With Each other And it's Benefits

Brothers Today We Are Going To Educate Each Other About Shaking Hands With Each other And it's Benefits it is Very Important Like The Other Pillars Of Islam My Reference To That Is Based On That Hadith That "None Of You Will Become A True Muslim Until You Wished For Your Fellow Brother What You Wished For Yourself". Yes all of us hoping to go to Heaven By doing all the pillars And Not Wishing For our Brothers what We Wish For Ourselves slandering And Backbiting Each Other Up To The Extend Of Choosing whom To Shake Hands With. There Are Some Benefits About Shaking Hands.

Shaking hands when meeting and saying salaam is part of the etiquette of Islam and its good morals. It is an expression of love between the two who shake hands, as it dispels hatred, rancour and grudges among the Muslims. There is a great hadeeth which speaks of its virtue, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are no two Muslims who meet and shake hands with one another, but they will be forgiven before they part.” Narrated by Abu Dawood (5212); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood. Shaking hands was a custom that was well known among the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them).

It was narrated that Qataadah said: I said to Anas ibn Maalik: Did the companions of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) shake hands with one another? He said: Yes. Narrated by al-Bukhaari (6263). Taking hold of one hand when shaking hands. This is mentioned in many ahaadeeth, and it is what is implied linguistically. I say: In some of the ahaadeeth referred to this meaning may also be understood, such as the marfoo’ hadeeth of Hudhayfah: “When the believer meets a fellow believer and he greets him with salaam and takes him by the hand and shakes hands with him, their sins will fall like the leaves of a tree.” Al-Mundhiri said (3/270): It was narrated by al-Tabaraani in al-Awsat and I do not know of anyone who is majrooh (unacceptable) among its narrators. I say: And it has corroborating evidence which raises it to the level of being saheeh.

Bismillah
THE PROPHET MUHAMMAD'S LAST SERMON.

(This Sermon was delivered on the Ninth Day of Dhul Hijjah 10 A.H in the Uranah Valley of Mount Arafat ) Note: Found on the Net, but without source or copyright information. Please contact halsall@muray.fordham.edu if you have information

"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I don't know whether, after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you carefully and TAKE THIS WORDS TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE TODAY.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that HE will indeed reckon your deeds. ALLAH has forbidden you to take usury (Interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived...

Beware of Satan, for your safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have right over you. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to commit adultery.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship ALLAH, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadhan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to. You know that every Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. YOU ARE ALL EQUAL. NOBODY HAS SUPERIORITY OVER OTHER EXCEPT BY PIETY AND GOOD ACTION.

Remember, one day you will appear before ALLAH and answer for your deeds. So beware, do not astray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, NO PROPHET OR APOSTLE WILL COME AFTER ME AND NO NEW FAITH WILL BE BORN. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand my words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the QUR'AN and my example, the SUNNAH and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. BE MY WITNESS O ALLAH THAT I HAVE CONVEYED YOUR MESSAGE TO YOUR PEOPLE."

EVERY MUSLIM MUST GIVE IN CHARITY

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Every Muslim has to give in charity." The people then asked: "(But what) if someone has nothing to give, what should he do?" The Prophet replied: "He should work with his hands and benefit himself and also give in charity (from what he earns)." The people further asked: "If he cannot find even that?" He replied: "He should help the needy who appeal for help." Then the people asked: "If he cannot do (even) that?" The Prophet said finally: "Then he should perform good deeds and keep away from evil deeds, and that will be regarded as charitable deeds." - Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 2, Hadith 524

TOBASKI

Controlling The Tongue

Among Allah's blessings upon man is that He made him a thoughtful and sane being and created a tongue for him... The Messenger of Allah [s] says: "Blessed is the man who speaks good and is triumphant; or keeps silent in the face of evil and is secure".[11] Among Allah's blessings upon man is that He made him a thoughtful and sane being and created a tongue for him. He made him able to utter sounds and clarify what he wants through the words which he speaks. He has only to speak to let people know what he wants. Thus, we should thank Allah for the blessings which He bestowed upon us. We should use our speech in useful ways; not to speak but goodness. For example, if we are in a meeting or a gathering and want to speak with people, or any discussion comes up then we should first think what we want to say and choose which words to use. If we can offer useful counsel to people or offer advice, we should speak in such a way to make others want to listen. Hence your words will be acceptable to Allah and the people because your speech is beneficial in guiding towards goodness or reconciling people, or teaching useful knowledge, and will increase the love of people to each other.

If we say a word of goodness we will get Allah's reward and the love and respect of the people and so we will be triumphant. As our glorious Prophet Muhammad [s] says: If man is not able to say something useful, he should keep silent from bad words and his silence will keep him far from Allah's wrath and from the harm which might befall him as a result of saying bad words. Whoever does evil deeds to people, people will surely confront him with evil too. And certainly, if you speak bad words it may cause you problems and harm and make you regret and wish you had kept silent and had not spoken. Consequently, our Holy Prophet Muhammad [s] educates us with good manners saying: Either you speak a useful and good word, or be silent which is better for you than speaking evil words. In Summary Among the best characteristics of a Muslim is to speak only the words of goodness and reconciliation. It is better to remain silent if you cannot speak the word of goodness.Whoever does not keep a check on his tongue will regret it.For those who do good is good (reward) and even more than that.
